About Dr. Clancy:
Dr. Clancy is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon. After receiving his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1983, he interned at Hackensack Medical Center. Dr. Clancy went on to complete his Ophthalmology training at the Albert Einstein / Montefiore Ophthalmology residency program, where he was elected Executive Chief Resident. He entered into private practice in 1987. After relocating to Bergen County, NJ in 1997, Dr. Clancy joined the medical staff of The Valley Hospital and the Bergen-Passaic Cataract and Laser Center. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member in good standing of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Clancy was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point in1975. After much consideration, he decided to decline this appointment in order to pursue a career in medicine. Several years later, Dr. Clancy began volunteering his time and professional skills for many years to provide eye care to the United States Veterans residing at the Veteran’s Home in Paramus. With the aid of the Lions Club, he established and equipped the first functional eye exam room for the veterans at this facility.
Dr. Clancy is an accomplished cataract and eye surgeon with over thirty five years of experience. He has also devoted much time to the diagnosis and treatment (both medical and procedural) of Dry Eye Disease and has had much success using the Lumenis “IPL” state of the art technology.
Although his office is equipped with state of the art technology, Dr. Clancy personally performs all comprehensive examinations including refractions. He feels strongly that there is no substitute for listening to a patient’s concerns about their eyes before the start of the exam and answering all questions at the conclusion of the exam. Paying attention to complaints and symptoms first and then asking appropriate questions has helped Dr. Clancy to diagnose medical conditions that seemingly have no relation to the eyes. A few examples include diabetes, brain tumors and other neurological disorders, and circulatory conditions which might lead to stroke or heart attack. An individualized, conservative approach to every patient is Dr. Clancy’s main priority.
